Marie and Audrey
Ashton Grange Care Home
Marie, an activities coordinator at HC One Ashton Grange Care Home in Sunderland, has embraced the use of our Reminiscience virtual reality sessions to take her residents to locations both familiar and new.
Audrey, a resident at Ashton Grange, enjoys our reminiscence sessions so much, that she always waits until last so she can have an extra long turn.
There were smiles all round during and after the activity, the conversation carried on with lots of other subjects being discussed and reminisced about. These wonderful conversations feed into our list of new locations to film allowing residents to see the places that are important to them and stimulate conversations.
Marie, the home and residents have been incredibly supportive of what we do, and it's a real pleasure to have them onboard.
“It’s just great, [the residents] love it. It just makes ours and the residents days enjoyable. David another one of our residents does not react to anything but with this activity we get smiles and nods which are fantastic.”
Marie, Activities Coordinator, HC One
During the session, Audrey enjoyed exploring the farm yard at Beamish Museum, where the horses and young lambs helped her bring back fond memories of visiting the countryside when she was younger. The paired screen showing Audrey’s view allowed staff and family to take part, chatting to Audrey as she looks around making it feel like a real outing.
Being local to the area, another of Audrey favourites videos is of the beach and parks of Sunderland. Rain may have been pouring down outside Aston Grange, but Audrey enjoyed glistening sunshine as she listened to birds tweet and waves roll in. Marie and Audrey shared some memories from the beaches and enjoyed a lively debate on the best place for a picnic.
